The terror attacks brought new urgency to the agency's work, as Walder and her team hunkered down in a room she calls "The Vault," scrutinizing drone images of suspected terrorists to deduce their networks and plans. She started in the agency's counterterrorism division, studying grainy satellite images of the mountains, caves, warehouses, and safe houses where al-Qaida operatives gathered.īy chance, she was assigned to work on a highly classified program-she is barred from giving its name-about two weeks before September 11, 2001.
To her surprise, she was invited for a series of interviews and was offered a job as a staff operations officer upon graduating in 2000. One day, she biked from her sorority house to a campus job fair and on a whim dropped off a résumé at the CIA table. As a senior history major at the University of Southern California, Walder thought she might become a teacher. In the near future, she would like to start writing for the campus newspaper, the Daily Collegian and in the long term, she hopes to become a broadcaster one day.Walder called Blau to sketch out the basics of her story, which would become The Unexpected Spy (St. Everything about this junior really ties together as she continues to work towards her degree in communication and journalism. As the social chair, Bizzotto organizes social functions, attends extra events to promote the team, and updates the team’s social media accounts.īased on these two leadership positions alone, it is clear that Bizzotto is a very organized, extroverted, and driven leader who is not afraid to be the voice of the groups she’s passionate about. Much like Kappa Kappa Gamma, she’s also in a leadership role for the club field hockey team. “Maybe we could get third or second, I don’t know if we’ll make it to first, but we’ll give it a try.” “We have people in leadership positions, so I think that will help.” Said Bizzotto. This team has done just that, while they placed fourth at nationals in Virginia Beach in 2015, Bizzotto is excited for what this season has to offer. The club field hockey team is a group of girls at UMass who are very passionate about field hockey but were not selected to play for the varsity team, and they are still hungry to compete at a high level. This is a registered student organization here on campus.
She is a member of the Massachusetts club field hockey team. When she’s not spying on other sororities, Bizzotto is also a serious athlete. “I’m pretty much a spy.” Said Bizzotto jokingly. At this meeting, she also learns what the other sororities did and brings that information back to Kappa Kappa Gamma and tells her sisters what’s going on with the rest of the Delta Nu sorority chapter. Every Thursday, Bizzotto goes to a Panhellenic Committee meeting to share with the Delta Nu chapter the work that Kappa Kappa Gamma has done over the past week.
“We’re more than a pretty house and that sort of thing.” Said Bizzotto.īizzotto is the Panhellenic Delegate for Kappa Kappa Gamma. They donate books to school children in need, among other community service.
Kappa Kappa Gamma is heavily involved in the Amherst community helping out in any way they can.
This sorority is approaching its 150 th anniversary and still going strong. One of Bizzotto’s main passions on campus is her sorority, Kappa Kappa Gamma. Bizzotto is also an “untypical sorority girl” and a passionate field hockey athlete for the UMass club team that is fourth in the nation and only continuing to grow. She is a passionate writer who inspires to write for the Collegian.
